HI,
Will changing the permissions of /var/mqm effect any application connectivity.
recently have changed the permissions to 770 for /var/mqm/
one of the applications which is running on the same server had issues to consume the messages on the queue.

Application which are using client connections did not face any issues.

need some help to understand what went wrong .

File system RWX permissions are not used to secure MQ objects.

What issues to consume messages?

Please be precise in your posts. What symptom or error do you see? Is there an error code of some kind?

The messages on the queue are not being consumed by the application.
No connections were seen on the queue .
tried a restart of the application and also qmgr which did not work.
there are no errors reported in the qmgr logs , application also says that they dont see any errors.

Once the file system permissions are reverted to 775 on /var/mqm the messages started processing.
Wanted to understand if there are any files under /var/mqm/ which will be used for connecting to the qmgr locally.
still waiting for more details from the application ,will post them once i have them.

Has this app ever worked successfully before? All MQI calls return CompletionCode and ReasonCode to the app.

So, you are saying that the app successfully MQCONNects to the qmgr, yes? What ReasonCode is returned?

And you are saying that the app successfully MQOPENs the queue, yes?
What ReasonCode is returned?

And you are saying that MQGET call fails? What ReasonCode is returned?

Suggest that you read: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ibm-mq/9.0?topic=reference-mq-file-system-permissions-applied-varmqm regarding why you should not modify permission bits for MQ files.

Yup, doing that will break any MQ applications running on that server. You should never change permissions for files unless you were given approval by IBM support.
