A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, when MO71 was a support pack and IBM MQ was still known as WebSphere MQ (or perhaps even MQSeries) there existed an additional program that came with MO71 called MQMONA. It was an agent program that improved the performance of MO71 by grouping together the myriad of small responses the MQ Command Server produced, into a few (or even just one) large message for MO71 to retrieve from its replyToQ.

Then came IBM WebSphere MQ V7.0.0, and the client read ahead feature, and the MQMONA program was retired as it seemed it was now redundant. Certainly the client read ahead feature was a great help for patterns exactly like the command server 1 X request, 1000 x response.

However, in recent times, we have heard from folks suggesting that client read ahead doesn't quite go far enough, and would there be a possibility to resurrect MQMONA?

So, we have. You can now download a modern version of the MQMONA program, with some better error reporting, a slight rewrite to avoid polling on queues (it uses callbacks now instead of polling MQGETs), and various other enhancements.

It is available free to use with MO71 and MQSCX and comes on AIX, Linux, Windows and z/OS.
