Hello, there
The communication is between 2 QMGRs in a cluster. GW5 is a gateway and APP4 is a cluster member. The channel is TO.APP4, which sends data from GW5 to APP4.
The network traffic is quite busy. At a certain timepoint, GW5 suddenly starts sending only 1 packet every 5 seconds to APP4. GW5 is on AIX, and APP4 is on Linux. Packet size is also fixed to 133, when the usual packet size is 1514. The data being sent is actually correct.
Messages started piling up in GW5's S.C.T.Q. I suspended APP4 and solved the problem. No FDC nor QMGR error was observed during the occurrence.
What do you think is likely to be happening here?
Thank you!
Song

Sounds like a network issue.
MQ is, obviously, very reliant on the network it runs on top of. If the network slows down as you describe, so does MQ. No magic, it can't deliver without the network.
What do your network people tell you?
Cheers,

Oooh, oooh! I know the answer to this one.
The network people will say that there are no issues in the network. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

My network people say there's no issue in network. Probably they're right as I don't observe a lot of packet retransmission. I'm involving OS administrators in the investigation.
Despite the slow pace I believe the analysis effort is on the right path.
Thanks for the help! _________________ Bazinga! |

I’ll speculate (‘guess’ at consultant wages) that you have a misbehaving NIC card. Swap NICs out to see if any improvement. Back in the day one case of NICs deployed slowly across a large metropolitan campus proved to be defective. Help desk noticed the coincidence. _________________ I like deadlines. What was the reason for pursuing this as a network issue with so little information on what MQ is doing ?
For example, is the channel substate constant during the issue, and if so what is that substate ?
A selective MQ trace, of each end of the troublesome channel would go a long way to showing what is going on. |
