The first URL took me to a page entitled “Using on MQSC commands”. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

That does seem handy, but it doesn't always work. IBM sometimes reorganizes, renames, or deletes pages between versions. For example, https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSFKSJ_7.5.0/com.ibm.mq.dev.doc/q023820_.html no longer exists in IBM MQ v9.2.0. Replacing "7.5.0" with "latest" just redirects to the IBM MQ v9.2 Product Welcome page. So, it looks like the "latest" links can break over time, even when the original links still work.
In the "Change version or product" drop-down menu, is the "IBM MQ" entry new? That just seems to redirect to the welcome page too, regardless of whether a "latest" version exists. Is it supposed to do that? |

Trying to keep up with IBM changing links is hopeless. Whether its a manual, a technote or a message board, IBM seems intent on keeping us all guessing on where to get information for their products. Its gotten bad in the last few years. Probably a rotation of IBM people looking to make their mark - hey, lets redesign the look and feel of this, who cares if we change the links for the 3rd time in as many years. _________________ Peter Potkay

I agree that it won't work for links that IBM removes, but I will likely use it most for reference pages, e.g DEFINE QLOCAL or MQOPEN fields, that kind of thing, and I have a higher level of confidence that those are less likely to disappear. I think the guide style material gets rearranged more often than the reference material.

I think the "IBM MQ" entry might be new. I frankly have no clue about its purpose. It does indeed always take you to the root page. If you hover over it instead of clicking on it and look at the address it is going to take you to, it is direct to the root page.

This really annoys me too. I have lost so much material that I used to rely on. I simply did not manage to save everything that disappeared because I didn't realise quite how much was going to disappear.

Web archive sites like the "Wayback Machine" can help to recover at least some of this lost material, (for example, IBM's now-sunsetted Globalization website). |

I used to collect links to useful IBM web pages, but I gave up because IBM changed links or completely deleted valuable material. You would think that IBM would keep this material online in an archive, like MS do. These days I print web pages to PDF if its something worth keeping. _________________ Glenn |
