WBIMB seems to completely change the way in which common sub-flows can be utilised by WMQI.
Suppose I create a bar file - BAR1 - which includes a top level flow - FLOW1 - and a sub-flow called SUB1. The cmf file will "statically link" SUB1 into FLOW1.
BAR1 is deployed to execution group EG1.
SUB1 is now updated.
I create another bar file - BAR2 - which includes a top level flow - FLOW2 - and a sub-flow called SUB1. The cmf file will "statically link" SUB1 into FLOW2.
BAR2 is deployed to execution group EG1.
So now FLOW1 and FLOW2 are running in the same execution group but with different versions of SUB1. This is entirely different behaviour to WMQI and MQSI, where sub-flows are effectively dynamically linked at runtime (i.e. a delta deploy of a sub-flow results in all parent flows using the updated sub-flow).
This means that, with WBIMB, deployment of a sub-flow change requires the redeployment (i.e. the re-creation of one or more bar files) of every parent flow using that sub-flow. Is there a benefit to having to do this? Is there a way round this?
cheers

I think 2.1 did statically link subflows, but the delta deploy was smart enough to re-deploy flows with changed sub-flows's.
The rapid deploy feature (right click flow, 'Run on Server') automatically deploys all changed flows. Beware though, it doesn't work too well in CSD01.
There really should be an option to refresh or rebuild a BAR, WSAD already does this for the other archive types: JAR, EAR and WAR. |
