Hi All,
So after 17+ years doing MQ / MB / DP admin I was made redundant (all offshored) beginning of the year. I had plenty of opportunities to move to other companies to be a MQ Admin but it meant long commute hours which I didn't really want to do.
In the end I took a local role that meant me gaining experience in AWS but its slow going really, and not really floating my boat.
I have opportunity to move back to an MQ Admin role with a different company
Just wanting peoples feeling for long term of MQ now days with alternatives on market etc.... |

I don't offer career or personal advice, for reasons obvious to anyone familiar with my career history or personal life.
My 2 cents:
Integration will live forever. Gone are the days where complex MQ topologies linked systems together A2A or B2B, drowned in a sea of HTTP on which we REST or wash with SOAP. Likewise complex flows linking endpoints with exotic data requirements become less common as we SWAGGER round with WSDLs. But the need to integrate, integrate reliably and troubleshoot such connections continues, only the technologies change.
In terms of pure MQ, I think the biggest challenge will be the rise of Kafka as a competing (and IBM endorsed) messaging technology.
Other viewpoints are equally valid and may be saner. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Big IBM users are fairly conservative and working systems (aka MQ) are only decommissioned slowly (if at all) in favour of ones that work intermittently (aka http, ftp etc).
In terms of career, it might hinge on how many years you have left to run, if it's more than 10 years, then it might be wise to adopt the newer stuff. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. Exactly my thoughts. How long will I work? Well you know how bad pensions are now in UK . But I think maybe 10 years or so!
I just find working on ibm middleware challenging and rewarding and have done for 17 years or so!
By way where are you in uk ? |

Nope. Although 200 miles from Watford is not far enough if you ask me...! _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

That's different, you don't commute 4,000 miles and your home (as opposed to hometown) is in that rebellious former colony..... _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. But you don't live there now? Sort of proves the point...
I am sure Watford has lots of good points....Harry Potter for one. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |
