Hello Guys,
I have done installation of IIB and MQ on my AIX machine.
So decided to take a back up of installations.
Hence I have decided to transfer file contents from below folders to a shared path.
MQ:
/usr/mqm
/var/mqm
IIB:
/Shared/IIB
/Shared/tstiibad/iibconfig
Would this suffice or do I have to take backup of other folder contents?
Any help over this is much appreciated? |

I don't remember very well, as I don't use IIB daily any more, but there should be a section in the Knowledge Center that talks about backing up IIB, and a separate section in the MQ knowledge center that talks about backing up MQ.
Usually, backing up MQ by copying pieces of the file system does not work, as I remember. _________________ chmod -R ugo-wx / |

No.
You can't "backup" IIB or MQ by taking a point-in-time snapshot of the file system without thinking very clearly about what's going to happen when you restore it and if you can handle that (given that when you restore it, it will be because bad things have happened).
You should use the methods outlined in the respective InfoCenters, as described by my most worthy associate. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

There is a command specfically designed to backup your broker in a form that is restorable. It even adds a timestamp to the backup if you don't specifically specify a an output file.
It is well documented so go look it up.
The general concensus is that you should have repeatable, verifyable and measurable methods in place to create and manage both MQ and IIB.
many people use scripts that are held in source control.
If you have them and they are uptodate then recreating something from scratch when you have a major failure is often the quickest way forward.
As my colleague has said, just backing up directory trees is not reliable.
With MQ it is only useful as a snapshot and when MQ is not running. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Using tar works better than cp for backing up/restoring file systems.
I am not clear if you mean the software for MQ or IIB (which can always be reinstalled) or the actual MQ/IIB defined artefacts like QMs and Brokers? _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it.
