When MFT / FTE reads a file to transfer it, it must not be locked by any other process. It can then lock the file itself, and safely assume its a complete file at this time.
IBM Technote: Does WMQ FTE lock files during transfer?

You can use the rename file technique. Send the file under one file name (which is not being looked for).
Then rename it (after transfer) to the file name pattern that the FTE input is looking for. File transfer protocols support renames.
No need for trigger files.
Locking is all very well except that standard FTP and SFTP don't use locking so if the file is being delivered by them, it won't be locked.
Because the totally insane Unix default is not to lock files, most unix applications will write files without locking. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |
