Hi Friends,

We are running WMB 8.0.0.2 on AIX ,we are planing to increase the broker transaction load about 5 times , I have calculated the current server utilization to decide whether we need to increase server hardware size or not .

Steps carried-out to calculate current server status
--------------------------------------------------------------

1) with this command "ps -eko vsz, rssize" we got total in use "real memory" and "virtual memory"

2) calculated total JVM heap allocated to all the EG's

3) Maximum CPU utilization from "nmon" report

Questions
---------------------
1) to calculate total used memory, do i need to check only "real memory" usage or i need to include "virtual memory" usage also ?

2) Total JVM heap allocate to all EG's together should not cross Total RAM ?

3) from the total 6 core cpu we use only 2.5 core, so server can handle more load ?

4) is there anything else i need to check to determine the server health?

Kindly share your valuable advice .

Thanks & Regards,

Anil

5 times increment is huge

you should perform some check's beside hardware.

Do you use queues ? are they configured to handle the additional load ?

Do you use any kind of log framework , maybe monitoring ? are the monitoring infrastructure ready to handle the additional load ?

Do you use any other services (rest, soap, etc) ? are they capable of handling 5 times more requests ?

how about network load/usage performance ?

And don't forget licensing...

Hi Friends,

Thanks for the advice, the hardware sizing and licensing will be taken care by the client, my responsibility is only to calculate current utilization.
(ex:) how much percentage of RAM & CPU is utilized for the current existing load.

Kindly help me to validate the steps which i used to calculate the utilization.

1) when i run this command "ps -eko vsz, rssize" the output shows total used virtual memory and real memory .
to calculate total used memory do i need to check only "real memory" usage or i need to include "virtual memory" usage also ?

2) Minimum JVM heap and Maximum JVM heap set in EG property, which one should i use for memory usage calculation

Thanks

Anil

ok, you have Min JVM heap and Max JVm heap , but .. what is the real usage of it ? does the JVM heap goes above 80% of max jvm heap or does it run bellow 40% of jvm max heap ? does it have spikes (busy hours ? busy days ? busy months ? ) or the jvm usage is smooth and constant all over the day/month ? what is the amount of time spent in garbage collect ?

If the usage is going to increase 5 times do you plan to increment JVM heap by a factor of 5 ?
