Hi,

We are seeing a weird issue in production. We see two messages in one of the application queue which the put application name is dmpmqcfg with a dead letter header.

Due to this, the application is not able to process the messages since these two messages are in the top position. When we remove these two messages using qload, the messages are coming again. Not sure from where these messages are coming in.

WebSphere MQ 7.5.0.2 in Red Hat Linux 6.5
Any idea whats happening?

runmqcfg is the MQExplorer. Look at the MQMD of the offending messages to see who used the explorer to put messages to that queue.

So much for the $ I spend on speed-reading.

The fact that they have a DLQ header is significant. There was a bug that, in some extreme cases, prevented the last message from a pcf call to be read because it marked the before last message as last message... and the destination queue (dynamic) might no longer have existed at the time of the put. (Hence DLQ).

Are you running on the latest fixpack? ( 8.0.0.2 ?) I believe this was fixed there.

Don't know what you did with your DLQ / DLQ handler to have the message go to an app queue, unless that app uses pcf messages?

We had two dead letter handlers running against the DLQ of the queue manager. We stopped them. However, there was no activity / messages landing up in the DLQ after March 13th.

When we stopped the DLQ handler, after a few minutes, the IPPROCS on the application queue went down. The app was restarted.

What intrigues me is that - why would a dmpmqcfg process pump messages to an application queue, with a DLQ header?

Messages are processing fine now. We are currently monitoring the application queue for any new 'dmpmqcfg DLQ' messages...

The -r switch names of the remote queue manager/transmit queue when using queued mode. That might explain why the messages were sent down the network. At the other end of the network, the receiving MCA put them in the DLQ. What is the reason code in the DLH?
