Hi Folks, probably a quick question...we've been running MQ for years on the AS400/iSeries/system i and I was asked if MQ can encrypt and send data. I thought that it was middleware and had no capability to actually move data from one system to another. Support says we can encrypt the channel and transmit data but that requires additional configuration steps.
Has anyone used MQ in this manner? I thought MQ was only used to put
data/messages on a queue so that another system can then take that data and then send it out to another destination.
Thanks, Frank |

Yes, WMQ channels can be configured to transmit messages from one qmgr to another.
And, yes, WMQ channels can be configured to implement SSL/TLS.
A quick search here or google for. 'mq+encryption ' would yield these answers. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Is the ability to send data and implement SSL fairly new to MQ? Must the receiving system have to have MQ running on it as well? |

MQ has supported moving data between queue managers since it was first written.
MQ has supported SSL since version 5.2, although it wasn't really useful until v5.3.
MQ has always required that both ends of a connection use MQ. |
