So maybe the channel doesn't have a status. They don't always do.

Or maybe it's just time for the software to have an afternoon nap. MQ 5.3 is very, very old and I imagine it doesn't have the energy it used to. You could raise a PMR with IBM Support. If they still supported v5.3.
If you don't have an upgrade plan, get one. Before a channel with no status becomes the kind of trivial problem you dream of. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

how should I know about their status whether they are running or not.....
Also cannot use the listener status..... is there any altenate command other than DIS LSSTATUS() to check the listener status in mq v5.3 |

yes, you need to check at OS level for either the runmqlsr process with the corresponding -m Qmgr switch, or for the corresponding setup in syslogd.cnf ... Have fun _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

The channel is not running for sure. It's retrying or in-doubt.
The only way to check the actual status is via MQ explorer or MQMON |

If a channel has no status then it is clearly not running. MQ does not report on all the possible channels that might be running for two reasons.
- there is no real point
What is the point of me telling you about the 10,000 channels that aren't running?
- MQ doesn't know.
If you define a sender on a remote machine somewhere in your network. How does MQ on the local box know that you haven't started it yet and that perhaps it should report that the channel isn't running ?

There is no MQ 5.3 command to do it but obviously you could do something like....ps -ef | grep runmqlsr or similar. Of course this would just tell you that the listener is running and not any status like what port it is listening on. You could also try commands like netstat to see whether you are listening on the port you wanted.
One of the major reasons to upgrade is to get all the product improvements. MQ 5.3 is very old....I think you would be pleasantly surprised to see how far MQ has come since then, when you install MQ 7.5. Certainly I wouldn't want to have to go back and use MQ 5.3.
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke

You might want to look at the syntax for DISPLAY CHSTATUS, as there are some parameter options that allow you to display SAVED status. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
