Dear Experts
I have experience in WMB Development, Administration and Architecture on distrubuted systems. Right now, my client is asking me to see if i can take up leading a Message Broker Dev to be deployed in Z/OS Environment. It is either going to be V7.x or V8.
Can you please advise me, what bridge courses or training do i take so that i can use my previous experience to put the Z/OS implementation in perspective?
I want to let you know that I have never worked in Z/OS. Don't know how it is like. I am Ok with Linux, AIS or Unix.
If you can please suggest a roadmap to proceed from here. I have about 2 weeks to get started.
Thank You

z/OS is very, very different from Windows/UNIX.
Visit www.ibm.com/training/us, and search for ES155 and ES10A. These two courses should be your start in understanding z/OS.
ES155 z/OS Facilities - is an introductory course on the z/OS environment.
ES10A Fundamental Skills in z/OS - gives you hands-on experience logging on to z/OS, using the two principal end-user shells (TSO and ISPF); using JCL, the batch scripting language; and using z/OS UNIX System Services.
Beyond these two beginning courses, there are Message Broker admin and development on z/OS courses.
Most courses can be taken from your home/office video-conference style. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

If you are developing message flows, the process is identical to any other environment.
If you are administering the runtime, there are significant differences. If this is going to be your area, you should become the subject matter expert on z/OS's System Authorization Facility.
By the way, z/OS has a little z not a capital Z. Your client manager will know right off you don't have experience if you don't spell the OS correctly. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

Thank You Bruce, Thank You Sir Lancelot
My client already already knows that i am a novice in z/os (Corrected the uppercase now). But wants to understand how can i leverage my existing experience in this perspective. As Sir Lancelot rightly said that Development of flows won't be any different. But, i want to do some amount of administration and plan the deployment infrastructure as well.
I am planning to go through the
1. Install/config documents for WMB and WMQ, WMQ for z/os
2. Clustering for WMQ for z/os
3. Any Other suggestions?
Many Many Thanks

So sorry, please note the correct spelling of z/OS:
small z upper O S.
You should take the class on z/OS's System Authorization Facility. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

You'll need more general knowledge of z/OS to fully exploit these documents, as per the ES courses linked to above. The install and config documents won't make much sense without these, as they refer to z/OS artifacts which don't exist on other platforms. Clustering for WMQ is the same on z/OS as it is for other platforms (and a cluster can include z/OS & distributed queue managers), it's how you set up the queue manager and configure it that differs; z/OS has no command prompt and hence no runmqsc.
With as much respect as I can muster for my associate, learning about the SAF is not really critical, compaired to knowing about JCL, RACF, ISPF, TSO, DSNs, WLM, DASD & SMF. Not that SAF isn't useful, just not where I'd start. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
