If you don't believe me then put in a valid z/OS UserID and put garbage for the Password and you will be able to successfully connect to the queue manager.

Well, I'll be... I am in error, Roger. I stand corrected. Sitting, actually.

Although I don't have a z/OS box at hand, I did the same test with a v7 qmgr on Windows (no exits). Voilà! Any password passed for a valid username successfully connects to the qmgr.

90% of the MQ world thinks that the queue manager does both authentication and authorization. It is hard to sell an MQ security product for authentication to people who think they have something that they don't.

Anyway, getting people to do some testing always shines the light on the issue.
