Use of NOBODY is a standard way of effectively disabling a channel as would be the use of any user that is not defined on a system.

in addition to what exerk wrote, the mcauser may be overwritten by a security exit. however, putauth channel attribute should be "onlymca" too to block the channel.

The initial value of MCAUSER is blanks/spaces. This means that the channel MCA operates using the authority of that entity that started the channel.

Setting the MCAUSER to some non-blank name (like 'NOBODY') causes the channel MCA to operate using that authority (if any). Many shops set the MCAUSER on the SYSTEM.DEFAULT channel definitions to NOBODY so that new channels start with NOBODYs authority - usually no authority whatsoever.

Then, after discussing the authority required for the particular MCA, NOBODY can be changed to an identity suitable to meet business requirements.
