Does anyone know if there would be conflicts for MQ in this scenario? I am assisting an end user, but I don't know enough about MQ to answer their versioning conflict question.

MQ Server on IBM z/OS mainframe.

They run a primary queue manager as a gateway for external communication. Then they run a backend queue manager for their internal applications. The messages flow from the applications through the backend queue manager and then through the gateway queue manager and to their clients. We’d like to configure Websphere MQ version 7 as a cluster on Solaris. However, we need to know if there would be issues if the other end, (the z/OS) is still on version 6 of MQ Server on z/OS.

Thanks for any help

When you say "cluster", do you mean "MQSeries cluster" or "Solaris cluster" ?

When using a solaris cluster and "normal" distributed queueing between the MQ systems there should not be a problem.

When using MQ clustering, i'd read the manuals and migration information. in most cases its recommended that the FR has the higher MQ level .....

V6 and V7 work quite nicely together. You should not experience any grief.

As you might expect, you can't exploit v7 features thru the v6 MQM.
