Hello fnrds,

I am trying to execute following query by using ESQL

DECLARE sSQLInsert CHARACTER;
SET sSQLInsert = 'INSERT INTO EMPLOYEE.EMP ( ENO, ENAME, SAL ) VALUES( 527 , PRASAD , 12000) ' ;
PASSTHRU(sSQLInsert);

I am getting the error "Text:CHARACTER:[IBM][ODBC Oracle driver][Oracle]ORA-00984: column not allowed here "

Plz help me in this regard

Thank you.

look at what the oracle error means.

Code:

oerr <oracle error number>

Is a good starting point.

There will also be other messages generated from the ExceptionList. Look in the eventlog for them all. They can often give a pointer to the actual column that is causing grief

Have you tried:

Code:
SET sSQLInsert = 'INSERT INTO EMPLOYEE.EMP ( ENO, ENAME, SAL ) VALUES( 527 , "PRASAD" , 12000) ' ;

Hi Venu,

you have to enclose the character values in Single Quotes..
That meanss mention the ENAME as 'PRASAD' in VALUES
