I've set up a Cluster with 3 QMs, one of which is acting as a Gateway with no application queues defined. My two target QMs are for two Message Brokers. The workload algorithms are standard round-robining. All is working fine, however some specific functionality that I was hoping to see isn't happening.

Each QM is using a namelist of 3 Clusters (LOW,MEDIUM,HIGH). I have 3 queues on each of my two target QMs; Q1 is in the LOW Cluster, Q2 in MEDIUM, and Q3 in HIGH. I was hoping to create some Service Classes to allow more granularity in my round-robining, to ensure that any intensive Broker flow messages are distributed evenly between the two servers.

The reality is that my separate Clusters are being ignored, and the round-robining is just happening at QM level. I've been rummaging through the manuals but I can't get a clear picture on whether this is possible and I've missed a trick, or if this just isn't possible using Cluster Namelists.

Thanks

Do you have 3 seperate sets of cluster channels?

i.e.
TO.QM1.LOW, clustered to the LOW cluster only.
TO.QM1.MED, clustered to the MED cluster only.
TO.QM1.HIGH, clustered to the HIGH cluster only.

Review this carefully, especially #12

i think it may work with different channel for each cluster. but thats just a guess, and ti raises the question if that really makes sense. maybe the cluster workload exit is what you need.

Thanks, I was using CLUSNL on the channels. This is working now with the separate cluster channels. And you're right, on reflection point 12 is very clear on this.

I think that as long as I stick to just a few Cluster 'classes' then this is a reasonable option - my channel administration is certainly manageable, and I'm comfortable with the extra repository communication generated from this. Do you think cluster workload exits would be more efficient?

Cheers

There have been a lot of fixes in the area of cluster workload balancing over the years, and the docs have had an update, if I remember correctly. Are you working from the latest manuals, and the latest MQ code?
