Hi,
I have a weired file which I need to model. My flat file is fixed length with different record. I use first two charectures to identify the record, but now my problem is for One record type, control record, I can have the identifier as 01 to 22. And the records are of two type, depending on some field.
How do I model this without duplication and making a mess.
00header
01test123
20test123
17test123
17test123
07test123
99detail
03test123
04test123
I followed some examples and I know how to do it for 1 Tag identifier... But this is a little confusing. Do I create 22 diffrent types and create Tag per type???

I agree
Who invents these formats? Is this a standard file format, or one which was invented within the organisation that you are working for?

That's interesting. There must be *some* reason why this was done. What does the specification for the format say? ( I know, you probably don't have any specification, but I have to ask ).

You need to use a group with Data Element Separation set to 'Use Data Pattern'.
Can you give some indication of the logical structure of your file - do these 'control records' occur at a specific place in the file? If so, it might be possible to use 'Use Data Pattern' for the control records, and 'Tagged Fixed Length' or 'Tagged Delimited' for the other records. But I need to know the structure of the file before I can decide. |
