We have very old system running on AIX on DB2 6.1 and MQWorkflow 3.3.2. We need to upgrde this to 9.1.

Since moving from DB2 6.1 to 9.1 is a tedious three step approach, we wanted to cut down the steps and down time and do the following instead:

1. Run db2look and db2move to export data from the DB2 6.1 system
2. Import into an empty DB2 9.1 MQ Workflow database
3. Run MQWorkflow ugrade utility to upgrade the database to 3.6
4. Install MQWorkflow 3.6 and let it use the upgraded database.

Will this approach work?

Will the approach be "supported" by IBM incase we run into any problems (We would also raise a PMR, but tought asking in this forum might get us new Ideas and faster response)

You approach might work, but is neither tested nor supported.
Please follow the instructions described in the "IBM WebSphere MQ Workflow Installation Guide Version 3.6" in "Part 3. Migrating from a previous release". In addition you need to upgrade IBM Websphere MQ to a supported version. After the migration to MQWorkflow 3.6 install the latest Service Pack 8.

Thanks Hos for the input. Will take note of that.

IBM has suggested Depending on the data size we can use either approach (db2move and updgrade to db29.1 through a 3 step approach). We would try both and take which ever is faster.
