Running Solaris 8, MQSeries V5.2 csd05, MQJava 5.2.1
Pub/Sub 1.07 using LDAP, mq ulimit set to 1024 (maximum),
active and max channels set to 5,000 using tuning parameters
agentclassmap and limit. I am running out of files and have to recycle the QMGR:
Probe Description :- MQSeries was unable to open a message
catalog to display an error message for message id
hexadecimal 20006119, with inserts 24, 0, '24 –
Too many open files' from open., , and
Arith1 :- 24 18
Comment1 :- '24 - Too many open files' from open.
Can anyone help with:
1. How can I track file usage to determine when I may run
out of file limits?
2. Other than setting the kernel paramaters and rebooting
are there alternatives?
3. Is there a way of determining who is holding the files?
a. what to look for in a trace? |

I am not sure about tracking file usage, 'lsof' might work.
But, I can say that the default limit on file descriptors on Solaris is not enough for MQ Series. The MQ Quick Beginnings recommends setting rlim_fd_cur=1024 in etc/system. You may even need to go a bit higher but if you are not at least up to 1024 that would be a good place to start.
