I'm new to MQSI and was having some basic questions. When we install MQSI I know that we can install the broker and the configuration manager on different machines, but how do we achieve this? Also where do we install the control centre and how does the communication take place between the Control Centre, Configuration Manager and the Broker. Thanks all for the help.

Fortunately a comprehensive set of manuals is supplied with MQSI (WMQI). I would suggest that you start with 'Introduction and Planning' and the Installation Guide for the Operating System type where your broker(s) will run.

You can install your broker on a different machine, but the configuration manager has to be installed on a WinNT/Win2000 machine (WinXP not supported yet). Same goes for control centers. The configuration manager connects to the broker through an MQ channel while the control centers connect to the configuration manager through TCP/IP.

I need to know if our developers can run Control Center from a Windows XP desktop machine. The quote below by lung states I need WinNT or Win2000, but I question that as one of our developers runs CC from a Windows98 box he has at home!

Can anyone shed light on this - I suppose we could just try it and see if it works!

I have heard of some people using WinXP to run the Control Center, and having no problems. However, keep in mind that WinXP is still not officially supported by WMQI yet. So if there's any problems... You get the idea.

As for running on a Win98 machine... Well I think no one ever tried that before! But again, it's still not officially supported by WMQI... So if there's any problems... You get the idea... Again
