And read the intercommunications manual (link at top of page for infocenter). It explains in detail in which case to rollback and in which case to commit.

i know you are experienced mq admin and just mixed reset and resolve, but this may confuse sandy12 so i want to make clear for sandy12 that:

* backout and commit are related to the resolve command that is required when your channel is in "doubt" - status and does not resolve automatically.

* Reset channel command is used when the channel numbers are out of sequence.

It happens to me all the time, and resetting the channels always work BUT, is there a way to make it reset the sender channels after it has been retrying after N minutes or something like that ?

If it was safe/smart to automatically reset sequence numbers IBM wouldn't have used them in the first place.

Focus on why your sequence #s are going out of whack instead of a script that will reset them. If your car all of the sudden got 5 MPG, would you look for cheaper gas? Or try and find the leak in the gas tank?

How do you know this?

What errors are documented in mq error logs - at both ends of the channel?

Thanks for clarifying this for our newbie.
As PeterPotkay mentioned, channels getting out of sequence are not to be taken too lightly. It should warrant an investigation any time. There are times when it is due to manual intervention (delete and recreate one end of the channel etc...) and that is when reset channel comes in handy. Usually any other case should be documented and investigated. It probably will need a PMR to resolve correctly, if it is not a channel in doubt case that can be resolved as per the manual...
