Hi ...

I am tring to map the data from a java application to a COBOL application . I am using message sets for doing the same and mapping by using a mapping node .

Suppose these are the tags from Java application being mapped to COBOL

Java Appl COBOL copy book Length
supId ---- SupplierId 10 (string)
carrId ---- Carrier ID 12 (String)
payerName ---- PayerName 16(String)

My requirement is if supId is not coming from java application then the SupplierId at COBOL should be mapped with 10 spaces . I have heard that MRM will automatically generate all the tags as given by the schema structure . So in this case will all the 3 tags be generated with the no of spaces even if in request if some tags are missing

Can anyone plzz help on this ...

We usually use an ESQL node to map and create the tag with a VALUE of NULL. In the cobol copy book import wizard we have the null value set to spaces.

Enjoy

fjp_saper is correct. If supId is missing, you will have to add it to outputRoot. You can do that in two ways
a) create it with a value of ten spaces
b) create it with an explicit NULL value. ( CREATE OutputRoot.MRM.supId VALUE = NULL ). In the message set, set the CWF Encoding Null to NULLPadFill, and Padding Character to SPACE.

b) is slightly better, because all the information about the physical format of the message stays in the message set and does not leak into the message flow.
