Hi Guys
Im running version 6 on an AIX box, and Im running 5.0 SP 4 on Windows 2000.
I know i know, Im working on getting this box upgraded and newer versions installed.
But for the mean time:
Since i have to create the basics for an MQ server in PuTTY, im not sure if have i done it properly.
I have gotten as far as to be able to view the QManager on Unix remotely, and to create and delete Queue's, but when i click on Channels using Windows MQExplorer, the MQExplorer closes.
I want to assume it has something to do with SYSTEM.MQEXPLORER.something... But i havent found anything explaining how to create it, what are the properties of this Queue, if there are version conflicts etc.
Im hoping its a lil something that needs to be created.
Quesitons?
Your help is much appreciated!

To administer a v5.3 qmgr with the v6 MQExplorer you need to set up "that" system queue on the v5.3 - someone did this a few days back. The search button is your friend. It's something like SYSTEM.EXPLORER.MODEL.REPLY but look it up.
I've no clue if it works on v5.0, or if v5.0 works...... _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

If i PuTTY into the UNIX/AIX box, i can do everything as normal.
My issue is that im not a fan of command line, and it makes administrating the queue's and channels a mission. Hence my desire to admin from a GUI, Windows MQExplorer.
Yea, i've read up on the SYSTEM.EXPLORERE...
Im going to go check again, but yea.. I've looked before and the posts dont reveal too much. |

Time to enbrace the purity and reliabilty of the command prompt. The clean lines of the white text, the reassuring contrast of the black background and the convienience of script.

If I understand correctly, you have a working connection to the AIX queue manager, but when you click on the channels folder, the MQ Explorer crashes?
If so then there should be an FDC written on the machine that the Explorer is running on (assuming you have a server install, not just the explorer). This should hopefully have some details about why the explorer crashed (btw. I'm assuming this is the eclipse based explorer that came with V6)
If not then there might be some eclipse logs to explain what happened, these can be found in your workspace:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Application Data\IBM\WebSphere MQ\
look for a file called .log (you might have to change windows settings to show hidden files).
If not there then try the main eclipse install directory:
c:\program files\IBM\Eclipse SDK
Hopefully that can give a clue . Also just to check, do you have the latest version of the MQ Explorer (e.g. CSD 6.0.2.2 or something, I lose track) |

So...... Now im going to try |
You're going to explain what version of Explorer is where. If the Unix version is v6 and the Windoze version is v5.0 (!) do you mean you're adminsitering using the MQExplorer or the old MMC snap-in?
I'm assuming that you mean you're administering via the MMC as that's the GUI for v5.0 and if you'd got the MQExplorer on Windoze the upgrade would be done.
If that's the case, then I suspect that what's happening is the MMC is getting far more channel parameters than it's expecting from the v6 queue manager and, like all MSoft products faced with an unexpected situation, is falling down in a heap.
Welcome to the command prompt....it's wonderful.....just let it wash over you...see the text....the wonderful text.....

Also remember the GIGO principle....
Your 5.0 qmgr will not understand the added 5.3/60 channel parms
It could well be that your qmgr is plain to old to admin via MQExplorer and you need to use runmqsc for that...
Don't know if the level of pcf at 5.0 is still there @6.0 for compatibility.
5.0 has been out of support for longer than I care to remember...
