I think this might be a good idea, I don't trust Windows NT to run a production workload and the price of AIX/UNIX hardware is simply outrageous.
Did you know that 1 GB of memory for an IBM P680 costs £13,000 (around $18k)? Every part for the P-series costs about five times that of an X-series - even when they must be exactly the same physical part (eg disk drives, flat rack monitors etc). It's a total ripoff and makes me quite angry.
The mixture of Linux stability and Intel server prices would be a winner!
