is there any link to where they compare using web services with http and messaging with mq
both with broker i might add

Don't know of a link. It may be comparing apples with pears though.
My understanding: web services are synchronous, MQ messaging is asynchronous (though you can make a synchronous application using request/reply).
Do you need sync or async application?
Does the application need to use web services as part of the wider system requirements? |

Well we have been using WMB and MQ for a long time and are very comfortable with it.
We are trying to see if there is a need for us to go to Web Services ?
also wanted to compare them in terms of scalability, monitoring, security, recovery etc

OK hopefully someone will be along soon who has better knowledge than me.
From an engineering point of view, are there new business requirements coming your way that can't be satisfied by the existing architecture? The "obvious" point is, if it's working for you now, why pay out for a change?
Just my opinion. I hope you get the answers you're looking for. |

Don't know about all those aspects but:
a) if you want load balancing you need another piece of hardware like bigIp or smth. JMS you can use a channel table...at the gateway...and the MQ cluster will automate load balancing for you...
b) performance wise typically you have a better throughput running JMS than http (with JMS pooling you should be running in milliseconds)...
c)Soap over JMS is a known protocol... make use of it...
