Hello, all,
Now I'm researching about MQ monitoring tools and found NetIQ's AppManager, which provides various modules to monitor specific platforms such as WMQ.
Is there anybody who worked with this tool?
I want to require it to monitor Q-depth, channel status, and process existence/load as well as typical infra. resources such as memory consumption, disk I/O, and CPU usage, but I can hardly get useful and up-to-date information about it.
Is it possible to achieve them?
Actually my goal is to summarize advantages and disadvantages of Tivoli OMEGAMON XE and NetIQ's AppManager for IBM WMQ on UNIX and z/OS platforms.
Are there any helpful online resources?
Now I can only have this information below;
http://www.netiq.com/products/am/unix/default.asp
Many thanks in advance,
Regards, |

We use NetIQ to monitor our AIX servers and queue managers running on AIX. It will monitor all of the things that you've mentioned. It requires the command server to be running and the ID that the agent runs as needs to be in the mqm group, a couple of possible security concerns. I didn't like their LocalQueueDepth knowledge script because so I ended up writing my own and the ChannelStatus script had an error in it that I had to fix. They might have fixed it since, but I haven't checked. They've also got scripts for monitoring whether the queue manager is up, scraping the MQ error log, clearing queues, starting and stopping the queue manager, though I haven't used the last 2. And they have general process monitoring jobs so you can monitor individual processes, like listeners and trigger monitors. All in all it's not a bad product but the support for the MQ modules is not very good if your having problems, or at least it wasn't a couple of years ago when we first started using it. NetIQ has been bought by AttachMate since so maybe the MQ support has improved. |

My experience with NetIQ is several years old, also, so (as the previous poster mentioned) there may be many improvements to the current version of the product.
If what you want is an all-in-one product that will provide OS-type monitoring and a basic level of MQ monitoring, NetIQ would be enough. The MQ module was an afterthought, so it does require a bit of fussing and it may not deliver exactly what you want.
If you want something that exploits the available attributes in MQ, then you want something like Omegamon, contact admin, QPasa, etc. which were written specifically for MQ.
IMHO, comparing NetIQ and Omegamon is comparing dissimilar products, "apples and oranges" as they say. |

Thank you very much, all.
Apart from its quality and product support, AppManager for WMQ seems to satisfy my requirements.
BTW, do you know if AppManager for WMQ provides a way of collecting information related to accounting&statistics of WMQ such as the number of messages transfered by the chennel? (like what OMEGAMON does)

Have you considered contacting the sales team for this product? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I'm trying it now, but their response is very slow. |

Not sure if it still holds true, but when we were migrating Windows servers to MQ V6, we were told NETIQ did not support V6 on Windows. This may have changed. Even though it did not support this, we still use it and get the same results we got with V5.3 on Windows. |

I've got NetIQ's comment that AppManager for MQ did not support WMBv6.
Therefore, it can't be our alternatives.
Anyway, thanks for many comments,
