I am in fact using a trigger type first in this situation and am using a wait interval of unlimited when getting messages. This just allows my transaction to run continously until the CICS region/MQ shuts down or there is a bad comp code from the MQGET.
It also effectively eliminates many of the advantages of triggering. If you intend to have it as a long running transaction why bother with triggering? If you're going to have triggering then yes, it's best practice to read the queu until empty but then time out & save the cycles.
The most important point if you have an unlimited wait is to ensure you have fail if quiescing set, so the queue manager can be closed cleanly. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
