We are running z/OS 1.7
We are in the progress of upgrading to WMQ V6 from V5.3.1
We have recently upgraded Mainview for WMQ to V4.3
When I try to bring down MQ with the “STOP QMGR” command, the following happens.
The CHIN comes down as the QMGR is stopping.
The QMGR begins to come down, but then hangs – I do a DIS CONN(*), and I see a connection to Mainview. (BBSMVMQS.REPLY.TMQ1 is the Queue.)
To actually bring down MQ I need to either:
Issue the “STOP QMGR MODE(FORCE)” command, or
Bring down Mainview.
I am unsure whether the issue is with MQ or Mainview.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. |

It's likely that MAINVIEW is not specifying FAIL_ON_QUIESCE, and leaving an open handle.
You can kill the connection, rather than stop MAINVIEW.
That might cause MAINVIEW headaches and require you to restart it.
You can try to get MAINVIEW to disconnect gracefully without restart. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Thanks for the info Jeff.
It is failing every time MQ comes down (Every night - don't ask!!!)
So I don't want to be doing any manual intervention. I realise the connection can be stopped, now that we're on V6, but decided not to look into this as it won't help me fix the automation shutdown!
I'll look into the FAIL_ON_QUIESCE. Is this a parameter that may solve this?
Thanks again. |

There isn't anything you can do on the MQ side to control how MAINVIEW works, not that I know of. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

This was an issue with Mainview not releasing the connection to MQ when requested.
BMC have released the following 2 fixes for the issue:
BPL1468 and BPL1518 |

Ross, thanks for coming back and sharing that. I'm not at the office to check it right now, but you might have saved us an issue. |
