Hello all,
I am a newbie in MQ, and I only used MQ with my Message broker. Recently I noticed the below error in the MQ error logs.
AMQ7469: Transactions rolled back to release log space.
EXPLANATION:
The log space for the queue manager is becoming full. One or more long-running
transactions have been rolled back to release log space so that the queue
manager can continue to process requests.
ACTION:
Try to ensure that the duration of your transactions is not excessive. Consider
increasing the size of the log to allow transactions to last longer before the
log starts to become full.
I did investigate and found that my MQ log is circular, so this should've happened. I need to give an explaination to my customer on how did this happen, and how to avoid it. Increase teh log size is an option, byt the question is what is circular is used for then?
Thank you |

Circular does not equal infinite. If you have a long running unit of work and a busy QM eventually you will fill the circular logs all the way back to where your long running UOW began. At that point the QM has no option but to throw the message below. The QM doesn't even have to be that busy if the logs are small and that outstanding UOW exists long enough.
How big are your logs? How many do you have (Primary and Secondary)?
You can eventually get the below error no matter how big you make your logs if you leave the UOW open long enough. _________________ Peter Potkay

You might find it valuable to search for logs in the forum - there have been some recent discussions on log sizing (and circular v linear) logging which you might find useful. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

You can get this error even if your logs are as big as possible, and no application has a very big unit of work open. But there are lots of units of work open, and the combined total size of them is bigger than the total log space.
The MQ Log parameters only describe the size of the active log space. This is only loosely coupled with the number of log files on disc.
If you are using circular logging, then you can say that you will never have more than the active log space used on disc. However, at times, you will have less.
If you are using linear... you can guarantee that you will, at some point, have MORE than active log space being used on disc. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
