I have to write a program that would take the values needed for defining a person and would generate an FDL file.
Is there anybody who has already written such app and is willing to share?
If yes can you please add it to the repository.

We have one, but we sell it, so I can not give it away. I can tell you however, that one of the MQWF TXNpacs has an FDL parser. Here is the link to the "Peple Administration" service Pack WO02 http://www-3.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/txppacs/wo02.html
One tip I can give you is that there is an undocumented command that will allow you to do commandline import/export from Buildtime. So it is possible to keep your BT and RT databases in sync.

Our databases are on Unix platforms. I can't find any command line utility that would do an import and export from the BT database. Do you have any idea what the fmcbimp corresponds to on Unix platforms.

Hi jmac,
Do you have a trial version of you application for evaluation. I would like to see how efficient it is.

Since Buildtime must run on Windows, the command is only supported on the windows platform, but you should be able to run it from any machine that has buildtime installed. _________________ John McDonald

There is no trial version to my knowledge, I will inquire next week as to what we have as far as doc goes. _________________ John McDonald

I see what you are saying. But don't you think it would have been nice if we have had the capability of importing and exporting to Buildtime Database from wherever the database is hosted apart from doing it where the buildtime is installed. May be like Runtime Database utilities, it would have been nice if we had Buildtime database utilities.

You are preaching to the choir.... I could give you a list that I started 3 years ago of "Shouldn't MQWF do this" that is about 100 items long. And that's only the stuff I think it SHOULD do, not the stuff I think it would be nice to do.
I have learned to live within the limitations of the product. _________________ John McDonald

Can you tell me is it the "People Administration" support pack download that has the FDL Parser.
I am creating a application that will read some FDL and convert it to XML for a User Administration Utility. It would be nice if I could find that FDL Parser you mentiond in a previous post.
Thanks.

Dave:
I didn't do the work for our product but we used something called jjt to generate the parsing code.
I also think that the "People Administration" support pack contains some type of FDL parser.

I am a bit confused here. Why do we need a FDL parser? I donot see any reason I need it. My application doesnot need to read the FDL, it just has to write the FDL. I dont see any use for a FDL parser for staffing, because my application will be generating an FDL as opposed to reading an FDL. _________________ -Ratan |

Ratan:
The reason we have an FDL parser is to put the FDL into Java objects that can then be used by our Staff Admin utility. There is no need for an FDL parser, as you know, if you just want to generate your own FDL, you can easily do it. _________________ John McDonald

John,
Is it possible for you to give us an outline of how your staffing process works? _________________ -Ratan |
