Good Morning !

a) we have created a Queue Manager with all values "by default"
b) platform is Windows Server 2003
c) we deploy a Message Broker BAR file whose size is 500 KB (kilo bytes)
d) Event Log says "LOG IS FULL"

*** What is the minimum log size for this environment ??? ***

( Minimum or Recommended ... ()

S.

PD - machine disk is quite large; guess customer has no problems defining a "very large" log ... but WHICH SIZE ???

i assume that this is dev env

Are u not using circular logging??

never came across with any standards set wrt ti bar file size.. may be it also depends on factors like how frequent the deployments would be.. just my sheer guess

since u don have issues with the disk space so how about doubling/thrice the existing size ....

may be some GMs can enlighten us wd exact calculations

Hi sebastia,

What is the Primary and secondary Log file numbers defined ? If it's default then 2 and 3 I suppose...

Look at the QM log files, you'll find your entire bar file contents(ESQL etc) occupying the log files...if the bar file content is much higher than the total available size of logs, then this problem could occur.

Keep the size and number high(higher than what your bar file max size would be)...You will need to recreate the QM though, you cannot change this setting after creating the QM.

Regards.

Of course !

(I am glad to help a bit, as I am always requesting help ... )

Our command is :

>>>

rem -lc means Circular Log
rem -lf 8192 (default was 256) means Log File Size = 32 MB (instead of 1 MB), as unit is 4KB.
crtmqm -lc -lf 8192 -u DLQ QMNAME
strmqm QMNAME

<<<

Is it OK ?

That's fine.

But you probably wanted to have -lp n and -ls m, with values of n and m greater than 3 and 2 respectively.

You can adjust this without rebuilding the qm, though. It's the easiest way to deal with not enough log space - add more log files. Unless of course you're already at the maximum -lp and -ls.

Number of log files (total of primaries + secondaries) can be low if there are no long-running transactions and the size of each is small.

But disk space is cheap. Have large log space if you can afford it.

As jeff said, altering the number of log files is possible without re-creating the qmgr. But you will have to end and restart it so it picks up the new qm.ini settings you altered.

OK - I can start and stop the Q Mgr, as we have a cluster ...

And, as ew are using this QM for a MB Deployment, there is large traffic but only once in a while, lets say less than 10 times a week ....

Thanks.
