We are using DB2 (8.2) with MB v6 on Windows 2003 Server.
When I use "mqsicreatebroker" I can specify the database name I did previously create using mqsicreatedb.
But there is no such parameter in the mqsicreateconfigmgr
Is there a way to specify where the Config Manager data base is created ?
Or is there a way to move it to a remote computer ?

Under v6 there isn't one.

can you tell me a good reason ?
my reasons to DO IT :
another department will do :
a) do the backups
b) do the restores on problem conditions
c) will keep DB2 with all fixes
d) will "tune" all the envir at its best
I think THERE ARE reasons to (try to) do it !!!

I still don't think there is an external database under the config manager in v6.
But what do I know?
On the subject of external databases generally, reasons against it are:
a) loss of control (maintenance outages may not be syncronised with your needs)
b) loss of service (failures to the database server will cause issues)
c) performance implications (if the network link is slow)
However, this site has the database remote from the broker for exactly the reasons you state along with:
e) the database belongs to the DBAs & they don't like sharing their toys.
What can you do?

You can't do it in v6 with ConfigMgr.
ConfigMgr in v6 uses an internal repository, not an external database.

Jeff : "internal repository" means Config Manager does NOT USE DB2 ?
Please confirm this point as IT IS IMPORTANT : customer hesitates about this repository's problems ...

Have I been talking to myself? v6 Config Mgr doesn't use an external database!

What problems? 
Your customer is also kinda stuck IMHO, unless someone knows a way of overriding this and pointing it at an external database. Which will cause your customer other problems as no way is that going to be a supported configuration even if by some chance it is possible!

I can't believe this thread is so long!
The Configuration Manager for WMB v6 doesn't use a database as far as the customer is concerned. All its data is managed internally and main initial reason for doing this was so IBM could remove the pre-req on DB2 for the Config Manager!

Just to be particularly absolutely clear.
There is no way at all ever in any fashion to cause ConfigMgr on v6 to use DB2, local or remote.
There is no way at all ever in any fashion to cause ConfigMgr on v6 to use Oracle, Sybase, SQLServer, or ANY OTHER database local or remote.
The ConfigMgr data repository is internal, and not subject to customer meddling or to any requirements for any additional software or licenses.
It is an integral part of the ConfigMgr, and is exactly as reliable, scalable, and BACKED BY IBM as much as the ConfigMgr itself.
If your customer is still "concerned" that this "repository" is going to cause "problems", remind them that that's what PMRs are for.

I know this was not the main purpose of the thread, but yes the mqsicreateconfigmgr has an option that allows you to specify the directory for the location of the derby files in V6.
