Does anyone know if there is a plugin and/or support pac that enables a message flow to update Active Directory..?
I've had a search but I can't find anything so I'm thinking that there is nothing out there at the moment.

You'd need to talk to AD using LDAP.

The easiest way that I know of to do this, and it's not that easy, I think... is to write a JavaComputeNode.
