Hi,
We have a situation where we have a sending queue manager that is very busy with normal message flow 24 hours a day. As volumes have increased we have found it difficult to process a large batch that arrives on the queue manager every night.
Purely as a stop gap measure we have started using our BCP infrastructure to process the batch messages. When we had queued up all the messages in our BCP QM we stopped the prod channel and started the BCP channel to send the batch through (sequencing is not an issue).
We are still looking at a longer term solution, however, we'd like remove the human element from this channel stopping and starting.
Both the prod and BCP QMs have the same name as does the sending channel.
We'd like to create a second different channel on the BCP QM which is permanently connected with the destination QM - this would in effect mean that two queue managers with the same name are connected simultaneously to a destination QM - obviously breaking the MQ rules.
We do not have any reply to messages and the flow is uni-directional, can anyone see a problem with this approach?

typical case for clustering and use the workload balancing, during the day you can suspend the 'additional' queuemanager and when the workload increases resume it using a script...
PS do not use the same QM name in cluster!!!

Hi,
Thanks for that. Clustering is not part of our architecture at present although we may review that. We had our fingers burnt a long time ago.
I'm looking to find out if running these two identical QMs will cause an MQ meltdown at some point.

Well, what's more likely to cause a meltdown is that you're using your BCP qmgr for production work.
I don't think your auditors would like that.
Bite the bullet and stand up another production qmgr.

Hi Jeff,
Yep, totally agree, its actually the aging non-IBM message broker behind MQ that has the bottle neck - soon to be replaced. So we'll be running entirely on prod from that time.
This will be an interim until Q3 - just checking there are no technical issues with my approach.

It's never a good idea to put two qmgrs of the same name on the same network. You might not see any problems because of it - but it's risky none the less.
And even in interim, it would be better to stand up a new qmgr... what if you have a BC event...?

I worked with Biztalk very briefly. That seems like a lifetime ago now. Didn't know it was still in use anywhere.

BizTalk is in use in a lot of Microsoft shops and is also being updated,
aren't you confusing e-Biz integrator (the NEON follow-on version of NEON Formatter & Rules)
