I am trying to remote connect to a Z/OS qmgr using Websphere MQ Explorer and receiving errors of 'command server not responding' and 'queue manager not available' I tried using both of the connect directly and the connect using the intermediate queue manager and still coming up empty. Has anyone got any ideas for this ???

Thanks in advance

If the mainframe does not have the CAF, client connection is impossible.

I thought ther might be some work around, I wish IBM provided the client on Z/OS for no cost as they do for distributed systems....

If they did, no one would use it. It's a well accepted fact that all z/Os software costs a fortune, hence cheap software is viewed with some suspicion by system programmers and free software would either be considered a virus or blasphemous!

IBM should at least provide CAF as standard for administration purposes, perhaps limited to 10 client connections unless licensed.

Fortunately we have it on all our mainframes.

An excellent idea. Either that or IBM should wake up and smell the coffee and provide it for free period. It is free on every other platform....I think IBM are platformist.

They 'claim' that they want to protect everybody's investment (Good Ole ROI and all that) and yet they force customers to either fork out (in our case $1700 per month) for CAF or look to using a gateway Qmgr.
