Is there any way you can have a piece of code that can be reused (like a function/subprogram) in ESQL ?

Yes, WMQI 2.1 CSD2 supports this feature. The scope of the function is limited to the node itself where the function is defined. It can not be called from other nodes within message flow.
For more information on how to define function, please refer to ESQL reference book.

If you want to write a global function, which can be called from any node, you could try writing Stored Function.
