Good morning,
We are running MQ v5.3 and MQ v6.0 on AIX v5.2 and AIX v5.3 respectively with our qmgrs specifying LogBufferPages=17, which we have not changed since upgrading from prior versions of MQ. From other posts and researching it appears we can get better performance from our persistent msgs if we change to LogBufferPages=0. Does anyone know how much additional AIX memory I should count on for each qmgr change? That is, I do not wish to tweek this value for all qmgrs on a box if the cost in memory is too high for the tradeoff. The manuals do not make it clear how much to allow for - any comments are welcome.
Thank you!

From the System Administration manual:
Quote: |
LogBufferPages=0|0-4096
The amount of memory allocated to buffer records for writing, specifying the size of the buffers in units of 4 KB pages.
The minimum number of buffer pages is 18 and the maximum is 4096. Larger buffers lead to higher throughput, especially for larger messages.
If you specify 0 (the default), the queue manager selects the size. In WebSphere MQ Version 6.0 this is 128 (512 KB).
If you specify a number between 1 and 17, the queue manager defaults to 18 (72 KB). If you specify a number between 18 and 4096, the queue manager uses the number specified to set the memory allocated.
The value is examined when the queue manager is created, and might be increased or decreased at either of these times. However, a change in the value is not effective until the queue manager is restarted.

IIRC the default in 5.3 was 64 (256 KB) _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
