Hi all,
I have a question. Might be simple but i appreciate if you clarify me on this.
There are two types of logging, Circular and Linear. By default it is circular. What are the circumstances which lead us to choose Linear Logging?(i mean is there any reason other than the provision for Media recovery)
Suppose say, I'm using Circular logging and when all three log files get filled, i'm saving the third log file to a disk, so do I need Linear Logging?
2. Suppose say, I'm using Circular Logging and I met with a rare situation where I need to do a media recovery. So, is it possible to do a media recovery (even though I'm using Circular Logging till now) by changing the mode to Linear Logging and do the recovery?
I appreciate your reply
Thanks |

No, that will not work. You need a media recovery image in the log to recover a corrupted object file, and circular logging doesn't support taking recovery images. _________________ -wayne |

You can't change log mode - it's fixed when you create the queue manager.
Spend more time reading the manuals, especially the System Administration one. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

but you CAN hack the LogType in the qm.ini file. (but, of course doing that isn't supported ) _________________ -wayne |

And experience tells if you want to go the hack way there is much more involved than just changing the value in the ini file...
