Planning to upgrade Win2000 Servers running MQ V5.1 server to MQ V5.2.1.
All QMGRs are part of the cluster.
First server to upgrade has Full cluster repository.
According to Chapter 1, page 9 of the "MQSeries for WinNT and Win2000 Quick Beginnings Version 5.2.1" manual (GC34-5389-02),
""If you migrate the default configuration of a machine hosting the repository queue manager for a cluster, the other machines in the cluster will no longer have access to the repository and will therefore encounter errors until they also migrate.""

Considering the above statement, will an MVS V2.1 QMGR, (which is also part of the same cluster,) be impacted when the first Win2000 server is upgraded? The MVS system currently does send messages to and rely on the Cluster repository QMGR on the Win2000 system.

TIA,
Phil

Phil, my understanding of the statement that you posted is that you need to upgrade all the environemnts which hold FULL REPOSITORY only. And which means your w2k upgraded to 5.2 should not make any difference to the exisiting setup of cluster qms. And the qm from MVs should be able to identify the full repos and work in the cluster as if nothing happenned.

This is just a theory and a guess and so please dont follow it blindly.

The reason for coming up to the above conclusion.
Say you have 4 Qm's in a cluster. 2 @ vendor's place and 1 each at 2 diff clients. Vendor uses say w2k 5.1, whereas one client uses MVS 2.1 and the other uses Hp-Ux 2.(all versions are mq versions). Now the vendor has many other customers other than these 2 which are workin on a particular project. So, he decides to upgrade to V5.2. If in this situation, IBM felt that even the 2 clients needed to upgrade, then i think it is a big flaw with clustering. And it would be really impractical to assume that the vendor could go for a higher version of MQ at the cost of all his clients.
All of the above assuming that the Vendor holds full repos.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
Kumar
