Did you try his answer before posting your reply?? (you need to make a little effort).

HOWTO - Starting a Command Server:

On NT/2000, click Start -> Run then type cmd (NOT command.com) and press Enter.
In the Command Prompt window type, strmqcsv {QMgrName}

The other way to do it is via MQSeries Services panel.
On NT/2000, click Start -> Programs -> IBM MQSeries -> MQSeries Services then double click on your QMgrName.
In the right window pane, right click on Command Server and select All Tasks -> Start

later
Roger...

I guess i havent replied clearly, i wanted to know why this error is caused, nly while stopping a channel for some reason. and it was helpful in getting an answer for how to start a command server. So i appreciate if i know how this is caused and how to avoid it. cos i get this error in most of my MQServer if i try to stop a channel for restart it again. I think in NT & 2000 they're located in ../MQSeries/errors

The error log says

Quote:
The MQSeries service was unable to start D067TLC/Command Server. The error
message reported was as follows: Process could not be started - return code 20
ACTION:
Use MQSeries Services to investigate why the service could not begin. If
recovery for this service is active, MQSeries will attempt to recover.

But i dont understand why this happends if i stop the channel manually, but after the windows pops up and if i press ok, after a while it gets restarted automatically.
i see the above log quite often, meaning the command server even without any intervention also this happens. i am just scrutinising why this command server goes off and on as it wishes and is there anything has to be done? this is my concern. so if anybody could help me i really appreciate that.

Are you accessing remote queue manager objects ?

Make sure you have SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN defined as SVRCONN with mqm userid. This channel is used by MQ explorer.

I'm not an expert on this platform. But, one other thing to check is services. Start--> Settings --> Control Panel --> Services Then click on IBM MQSeries -->Startup Does everything look ok in there? For me, my Startup Type is "Manual" and I log in as "System Account". Hope this helps... Good luck, and can you later post your findings if you have an answer. Thanks.

Hi Kavitha,

May I know in what User Account did you logon to the NT / 2000 machine.
Is that the Id used for Installation of MQ ( I mean the "Administrator" ) or some other account ..

Try starting the Queue Manager,Command Server and Channels after logging on as a Administrator / "MUSR_MQADMIN" ( mq admin account)

It should be fine.. Do you see any DCOM error related to MQ in the Event Viewer.. ??..

when you use MQSeries Explorer ( which uses MMC ) it uses DCOM And Command Server of MQ.. DCOM related issues are not popped-up as errors but are certainly written to Event Log.. so check it out.. I suspect a DCOM related problem.. mainly bcos of the logon account...

Pls give me your feedback so, I can help u further.

I suspect the problem is related to the fact the SYSTEM.ADMIN.COMMAND.QUEUE is set to EXCLUSIVE Access and either you are trying to start the command server twice or if it crashes it leaves an orphaned open handle on the queue, so that when you try to restart it fails
to connect because it looks like something already has opened the queue.
