Does the queue manager keep account/statistic information about queue that can be access using PCF? I am looking to write a monitoring application to connect to the queue manager and interrogate a queue to obtained the number messages that have hit that queue. Is this possible with MQ 5.3 with PCF?

Thankx

I don't think it is possible with MQ5.3 on distributed.
I am not sure about z/OS though

Sadly 5.3 for z/OS has no PCF support in it. This is introduced on z/OS in Version 6.0

z/OS does (or rather...CAN) cut SMF records with accounting stuff in but as the original question was about PCF I am not sure this helps much

RESET QUEUE STATISTICS is what everyone uses to monitor the following statistics of queues in v5.3 - enqueue count, dequeue count, and maxdepth since last reset. These are the only statistics in v5.3 that are available about "the number of messages that have hit a queue". But they're fairly sufficient!

RESET QUEUE STATISTICS can be called using PCF messages.

I believe it can be called as an MQSC command onto the z/OS command queue, too - well. I'm sure that if RESET QUEUE STATISTICS is valid on z/OS then it can be called this way.
