Hi,

We have a java application on a Sun box wanting to talk to DB2 on the mainframe.

DB2 stored procedures are being suggested rather than using MQ.

Does anybody have any pros/cons regarding this ?

Cheers,

Well why not use both.

Pros for using DB2 Stored procedures
1) No need to write mainframe app to process request (MQSeries would
still require writing mainframe app to read/write database)

Send the calls for the stored procedures using MQSeries.

But how do you invoke db2 stored procedure? Is it something part of Integrator or Work flow? When you say that you need to write an App on mainframe (to use MQ Series) , are you suggesting that you need to package it with an IMS or CICS transaction.

thanks.
