I have MQV6 server installed on my machine(win2000) with client. I know file transfer GUI is available only on server.
Then, what is the use of 'start->programs->ibm websphere mq->Client File Transfer'?
and
how to use it because the panel we will get through this, is identical to server file transfer GUI. |

It runs as an mq client, you either need to ensure that an MQSERVER variable is setup in the environment or a mq client channel table is available.....

thanks wayne, for the reply....
I too thought like that and set the MQSERVER envt variable, but its no way affecting the behavior of client file transfer GUI... it is showing all the queue managers in the pop down menu....
In fact, just now I found out that, the links of both 'Client File Transfer' and 'server file transfer' are pointing to mqftapp.exe....
what do you ppl think?

It does? Mine only shows a list of queue for the selected qmgr... where do you get this list?
To select a "client" based connection :
File->Setup...->Change (button), then select the "Remote" radio button ... "Remote" really means "MQ client" ....

am very sorry, I am getting list of queues after selecting 'local' button, and specifying the qmgr name... i was confused with qmgr list

but, why the server conn channel is not showing it's status as running?

alpan, is it working? I think the connection is made to the qmgr only when you actually send / receive files (and to get the list of queues).....
There is only 1 executable, the eclipse based transfer utility...it can handle both client and servr bound modes ....

The point is that you do have 2 different ways to connect.
If the connection cannot be established the right way there is no point going further. In fact the connection can only be established the right way.
You can only establish a server connection if the client is on the same machine as the server. A server connection usually allows multiple phase commit and other goodies of the same...
A client connection can be established from any host.

well, if you installed only the client, or only the server, then would only have 1 link....

I guess you'll have to get a slower machine as I was able to "catch" the client channel running....
