It really depends on the server speed. What spec are we talking about?
MQ usually comes up very quickly in my experience. 2-3 minutes tops |

I guess it depends a lot on what crashed...
if it was HD, it can take a bit of time to recover.
If it was other hardware, it's not as likely to take quite as long.
Regardless, if you've got at least a saveqmgr dump from somewhat recently and an amqoamd dump from somewhat recently, you should be able to rebuild a qmgr within an hour on another piece of hardware and have it up and functioning. Messages on queues is a different question, though. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Also depends on platform and throughput - a heavy duty z/OS server may take up to 10 min to go up after a serious crash.
Please be more specific - tell us your configuration and the exact crash scenario. |

Some more food for thought:- Is it sufficient to simply put the MQ configuration back in place or do you also need to recover messages?
- Will the person performing the restore be an experienced MQ Administrator or a Server Administrator executing from a playbook ?
- As Jeff mentioned, how prepared will you be? Will backups of queue manager objects be readily available to implement ?
- Is an HA solution under consideration ?
Additionally, I would recommend some light reading of the MQ System Administration Guide, Chapter 14 on Recovery |
