I'm currently trying to build a Windows 2000 image which will be deployed to about 30 machines, most of which will be running Websphere MQ. Basically, I want to install MQ (and all of the other software that I need), and then run sysprep to change the computer name and SID of the computer. After that I would create the queue mangager and run a tst file, and a I should be off and running.

The problem is after I run sysprep on a machine, MQ is unusable.

The first problem I run into is creating the queue manager. I get this error:

Code:
Queue manager testqueue could not be created. WebSphere MQ returned error 71:
CRTMQM -q -ld"C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\log" testqueue AMQ8101:
WebSphere MQ error (893) has occurred.

I dug around on the internet and found the command 'amqmdain regsec'. After I run that, I'm able to create a queue.

So now the queue manager is created, but doesn't behave correctly. The queue starts up, and immediately stops.

Digging around through the error logs provide a lot of errors, most of which look like permissions issues (file not found, etc).

My guess is sysprep screws with permission somewhere which causes problems for MQ. Anyone out there have experience in using MQ with sysprep? Help!

My guess is that your sysprep image is setting permission on mq resources to the wrong "mqm" group - that is a group named "mqm" with a different SID than the mqm group on the local machine.

You're probably a lot better off learning how to run a silent install of MQ from your sysprep process, rather than trying to image MQ directly.

Thanks for the quick response.

An install of MQ after sysprep is my backup plan. I was hoping that there would be an equivailent command to 'amqmdain regsec' but for the file and folder permissions. It's looking less likely that's the case though

I don't know of one.

I'm replacing machines on fly, so any time I can save is important. I just ran though a mock replacement and the CSD took almost as long to install as MQ itself.

Is there a way to 'slipstream' the CSD into the MQ install, sort of like you can do with the service packs for Windows? That would cut off about 5 minutes of install time.
