WebSphere MQ V6.0 distributed and Linux for z/OS versions are available
for electronic download from IBM (provided you have the required Software Access Option, this is not a FREE site, it requires a $$ subscription)

I'm confused by the recent announcement (Oct. 18, ZP05-0440). It states support for 'Linux on zSeries (s390x)'. GA is end of Oct.
In the original MW v6 announcement (205-094, April 19) they announced GA for 'WMQ for Linux zSeries platform'. We have the CDs for Linux on zSeries.

What does the new announcement mean for MQ on zLinux? Is this a newer release than the June version?

Will both versions run with RedHat v3 and RedHat v4 on zSeries?

the new version is a 64-bit qmgr, similar to what already exists on linux/power and on the other unix systems. the original V6 release was 32-bit (or 31-bit) only, although it ran on 64-bit hardware.

there were some requirements for 64-bit MQI libraries on that platform and it turned out the most cost-effective way of delivery on that particular system was to have a full qmgr.

The difference should be "obvious" because the new product is labelled as being for s390x not s390 ... :-)

According to the announce letter, it requires RH4 or Suse9.

These new platforms are identical code to the original V6 GA, except they have CSD1 pre-applied. CSD1 will be released independently for the first tranche of platforms (no manufacturing refresh of AIX etc).

If you already have queue managers running with V6 on the 32-bit zSeries Linux, make sure you read the "limitations" section of the announce letter.

Ah now I see: the PDF of the announcement letter is only 2 pages, it misses most of the detail info. The web version is 22 pages.
