Hi all,
I am very new to MQ.
Here are a few questions to clarify my doubts.
1.Are there different MQ series or they all refer to Websphere MQ series for which the latest version is 6.0
2.What is the difference between MQ Series and JMS how do they relate to each other. I know JMS is a specification for
messaging by Sun. Is MQ series a reference Implementation of the sun specification for JMS.
3.Can I connect from any programming language to the same MQ Queue Manager?
4.What are channels and how do they relate to each other?
5.Is ther any good reading guide which defines all these terminologies used in Messaging?
Thanks

First and foremost, the answers to all your questions are in the manuals, and floating about this site, just waiting for you to find them; but for the sake of hospitality, here goes:
1. Just one MQSeries (synonym Websphere MQ or WMQ); most of us work with 5.x versions (5.3 and some 5.2), version 6.0 just came out in the past 6 months or so.
2. Yep, MQ for JMS is just a package to code connecting to WMQ with JMS classes. JMS is a generic communication interface, which you may use to implement MQ as your lower-level communication layer.
3. Pretty much any programming language: C, C++, PLI, COBOL, Perl, VB, native Java to name a few, and they can all connect to the same qm, if you so desire.
4. That's too much to ask in one sitting, read the Intercommunication manual or search this site to learn about channels; Generally speaking, a channel is the means queue managers connect to one another, with the exception of mq client which is sometimes refered to as a client channel.
5. As said, the Intercommunication manual is the best place to start; After that you should read the Programming Guide and possibly the System Administration Guide. You should also learn to use the "search" button on this site, its an endless learning resource.
Good luck! |
