We are in the early stages of analysis to determine the best hardware platform to run WMQI on. This will be part of an enterprise, mission-critical, application where the majority of this companies business transactions will flow. We are currently looking at Intel vs. Unix (IBM PSeries running AIX). We have completed some performance testing on the two platforms. Interestingly, the Intel platform is outperforming the Unix platform by a significant margin. Given the cost differences, we may consider configuring a high availability, Intel based, platform. We are estimating a peak of 600-700 tps. What have been your experiences?

We have two P680s in a HACMP Cluster using ESS disks. However the hardware costs are very high. The amount IBM charge for P680 memory is outrageous.

I agree that the Windows performance of MQSI is good, Using Windows 2000 in a cluster would certainly be worth consideration if your company can live with the idea of Windows running a key central hub server.

With Windows I favour the active-active arrangement if all at possible - you have to assume Windows will fail more often than Unix. Our application was not really suited to this and we use active/standby.

If you can scale up by adding more servers then Windows is OK, it you need scalability in a single platform then the P690 is better.
